Death is an unkind shadow:

It is the colleague who tells lies without blinking twice.

It is the kleptomaniac who steals your wallet and leaves your bus-pass in your purse.

It is the cloud of darkness

determined to suck your energy before sunrise.

It is a weight.

It is a hunch.

It is a debt.

Like a resentful flirt, it serenades your entire being,

You cannot breathe.

But it has not come for you.

Deliver me and my family from the jaws of death.

But death has no jaws.
